In ancient Etruria, located on the edge of a plateau, ten megaliths separated by narrow passages delineated the monumental observatory of Poggio Rota. The Etruscans studied the celestial vault in depth to predict human events; using rudimentary instruments, they calculated the arrival of the seasons and interpreted the stars as divine omens. As families gathered around burning fires, priests performed sacred rites to honor the celestial gods and ask for their protection. They sang ancient hymns, burned incense, spices, and fragrant flowers, and offered prayers to the stars. In the darkness of the night, the Poggio Rota Observatory became the center of the Etruscan cosmos, where magic and science merged into a single mystical experience.
